The weather wasn't great, but Telluride kids didn't seem to care. The annual Halloween Parade went off anyway. Two things you can count on in Telluride: we love a parade, and we love to dress up. Halloween and the Fourth of July are good examples of these two likes coming together.
ps: Besides the video, this photo of Nana Jan and little Cate Grace Templin was too good to pass up.
Dateline: Guggenheim Museum, New York, October 23, 2009
For Telluride Inside... and Out, strangers are just friends we haven't met yet. Leo and his parents were visiting from Geneva, Switzerland. The other work of art is by Kandinsky.
TIO is back in Telluride, but it was a good trip.
Saturday night, October 31, party on Telluride Halloween style at the Sheridan Opera House. KOTO is sponsoring its 33rd annual bash, so dig into that costume box (you know you have it) and get it on.
Doors open at 9 pm. Tickets are $23/advance, $25/door. And if you wish, you can come as a member of your own sex, but it isn't necessary. It is Telluride after all.
Music is by the Rockadiles and Soul Atomic. Cash prizes for best costumes.

Visible Planets: Morning: Venus, Mars and Saturn Evening: Jupiter
Open the door to a week of mystical illusion and metaphysical possibility. Spirits dance and souls cross, witches fly and ghosts haunt. We have reached the dramatic end of the pagan Celtic year and the celebration of Samhain, a three-day festival honoring the season’s harvest and marking summer’s end. In ancient times, bonfires dotted the nightscape and families gathered in groups and villages to share the fruits of their labors, tell stories, evoke spirits and pay homage to their gods and goddesses.
In the Catholic church, the end of October and the first days of November are marked by All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, times set aside for prayer and remembrance of those who have passed on. Cemeteries are visited and cleaned, private altars are built and the departed loved ones’ favorite foods and beverages are set on tables or placed on gravesites.
Today these ritual holy days have morphed into our modern day Halloween. In a blend of tradition, belief and fantasy, costumes and candy honor the dead, celebrate the harvest and invoke the mysterious. As the season of darkness reigns, the veil between life and death is thin. The crack between the worlds opens. Spooks walk and spirits cross. Keep your eyes and hearts open, set out those treats and take note of the annual full “Hunters' Moon” on Nov. 2nd – Dia de los Muertos - at 12:14 p.m. MST in the Scorpio/Taurus polarity. Happy hunting!
Telluride Inside... and Out's fashionista Kristin Holbrook of Two Skirts is into the classics. Last week's subject was the blazer – albeit with contemporary twists primarily from Elizabeth and James – and this week, Kristin wants to talk about jeans, an enduring fashion staple and statement, but updated in combination with the legging. The look is great running errands or out on the town, which is why legging jeans have been spotted on SoCal stars from Isla Fisher to Hayden Panettiere and tween queen Selena Gomez. Plus, the price won't break your piggybank.
For more on how to wear leggy jeans, click the "play" button and listen to Kristin's podcast.
Telluride's Nugget Theatre is showing "Couples Retreat" and "Zombieland" the week of Friday, October 30-Thursday, November 5.
"Couples Retreat" (Rated PG 13) takes place in Bora Bora. Couple 1 is having some marital difficulties and for reasons of economy talks Couples 2-4 into joining the fun. Everyone gets therapy, as it turns out. And even the "happy" couples need it.
I won't say too much about "Zombieland" (Rated R for zombie violence) except to quote Roger Ebert: "...not many zombie comedies can make me think simultaneously about 'Psycho' and 'Garfield.'" He liked the movie, by the way.
See below for showtimes and the Nugget website for trailers and reviews.

Telluride will have the opportunity to see some Shakespeare tonight, October 29. The Aquila Theatre Company is bringing the Forest of Arden to the Palm Theatre stage in a single performance of "As You Like It."
The romantic comedy is built on mistaken identities, some intentional as the result of that old Telluride staple, crossdressing. The Bard is at his best, word play for the connoiseur. Curtain at the Palm is 6:30 pm.
