TELLURIDE SAYS GOODBYE TO J. MICHAEL BROWN

Memorial service for J. Michael Brown

Saturday afternoon, November 12, 2011, the Telluride community gathered, filled the Palm Theatre, to honor and say goodbye to our friend, J. Michael Brown, who died in late October.

Listening to so many whose lives were touched by Michael’s generosity, speaking in mostly homespun ways, awkward at times, almost always with heightened emotion, it was possible to see a whole town as affected by one person, one who embodied what we love about this place.

And as we gathered at the Elks after the tribute at the Palm, telling stories, some old, some more recent, I was struck by the realization that Telluride is informed by the mountains and the canyons that surround us, but just as much by the people who have chosen this beautiful place as home. Michael will be missed.

I shot this video last Spring around the opening of Life Cycles. I’ve chosen to run it again to show the energy that Michael, James, Travis and Summer put into getting the shop up and running.
