TWO SKIRTS’ FASHION FRIDAY: COBALT BLUE

In honor of the upcoming President’s week, Two Skirts is celebrating fashion in red, white and cobalt blue. Chemically the color is cobalt aluminate, which is toxic when ingested or inhaled. But when worn on the body it’s intoxicating.

Cobalt blue breezed on the scene last summer on red carpets and runways, Stella McCartney and Diane von Furstenberg leading the charge. Current/Elliot rode the cobalt wave with electric blue jeans for fall. Now cobalt is taking stores by storm for spring.

Commonly paired with black for fall, the spring combinations are way more exciting. Try a little red, white and cobalt blue from true American designers Milly and Marc Jacobs. The combinations are more playful than patriotic: Marc Jacobs does it with hearts; Milly’s addition of brown to the palette is geometric genius! (See photo)

The options keep rolling out as cobalt combines beautifully with neutrals such as tan and nude, as well as bright yellows and oranges. More importantly, the deep, rich hue compliments all skin tones and hair colors, making cobalt a must have for everyone.

So for cobalt fashion, eat it up!  Just don’t inhale.
