FASHION FRIDAY: CLUTCH FOR THE CAUSE

FASHION FRIDAY: CLUTCH FOR THE CAUSE

“Because your grandmother’s clutch is another girl’s treasure.”

That’s the tagline of the 3rd annual Clutch for a Cause, a benefit for the San Miguel Resource Center.

Telluride-based San Miguel Resource Center is the region’s only nonprofit serving victims of interpersonal violence. SMRC’S mission: eliminate sexual assault and domestic violence in and around Telluride, including the West End.

Historically, the Resource Center’s only public fundraiser has been the Chocolate Lovers Fling, scheduled on or close to Valentine’s Day to underline the nonprofit’s mission to promote healthy relationships. However, violence and assault are not seasonal occurrences. The twin offenses to do not melt away when the snow stops falling.

The summer fundraising event, created and hosted by Two Skirts, takes place Wednesday, July 11, opening with a cocktail reception from 4-7 p.m.  The idea is to recycle handbags and raise money (and awareness) for the SMRC through this fun venue. In addition, all Two Skirts’ handbags are on sale for 20% off and those proceeds are to be donated as well.

There are various ways you can help.

Start by rummaging through your own accessories and bring your old/forgotten handbags to Two Skirts by July 10. (Bonus for you: a closet cleanse!)  Next, stop by the event and purchase any of the 100s of donated bags. There are always designer goodies from Gucci or Prada, vintage treasures in lace or beads, and quirky finds like license plate or cigar box purses. Prices range from $5-$150 for recycled bags.

If you’ve been eying a new Marc by Marc Jacobs satchel in the store windows of Two Skirts, now is also the time to act. Again, all brand new bags, totes, clutches and wallets are 20% off during “the Clutch” with prices starting at $70.

So next Wednesday, get yourself another bag, new or used, and support a worthwhile cause. You’ll look chicer – and feel good about yourself at multiple levels – because you did.
