MARCH 4TH MARCHING BAND

March Fourth Marching Band

The 19th Annual Telluride Blues & Brews Festival announces the Sunset Blues Concert in Mountain Village, Thursday, September 13, 2012., 5 p.m.  The event features the MarchFourth Marching Band and takes place at Sunset Plaza, just a short scenic Gondola ride away from the Town of Telluride.  The event is free and open to the public.

Formed in 2004, the MarchFourth Marching Band named itself after the date of its first show: March 4, 2003. What began as a handful of artists and musicians playing for a Fat Tuesday celebration in Portland, Oregon, has since become one of the nation’s best live touring acts. 5280 Magazine described the band this way:

“Part New Orleans brass ensemble, part groove-heavy rock group, and part vaudevillian circus, this group unleashes such a Technicolor experience that using the word ‘concert’ to describe their performance falls flat.”

The MarchFourth Marching Band throws itself and the audience into a swirling volcano of high-energy music and spectacle. The mobile Big Band, always clad in uniquely designed band uniforms, now boasts over 20 members, filling roles  such as percussion corps, traditional funk rock instrumentalist, brass experts, acrobats, stilt walkers and fire dancers. The audio and visual spectacle infuses energetic jazz, swing, klezmer and world music undertones to provide a truly unforgettable entertainment experience.  The band has wowed audiences around the globe, landing them features on albums with major recording artists. This is one kick-off performance you do not want to miss.

The happening takes place rain or shine and is sponsored by Sierra Nevada Brewing, Silverstar Properties, TMVOA, and Town of Mountain Village. Mountain Village’s open air market featuring food and craft vendors takes place the same day at Heritage Plaza, 12:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.
