“The same, only different.” – Anonymous

barrilito1How many times have I heard that said, or said it myself? Hundreds, maybe thousands. It refers to so, so many things, and certainly describes how I’m feeling today.

wave1Every year, the seasons come and go. They roll around our planet like a slowly cresting wave on a sandy beach, ebbing and flowing, rising and falling. The cardinal solstices and equinoxes initiate beginnings and endings. The times in between are fixed and mutable, first setting the season and than shape-shifting it into the next one. And every year, every new season, it is “the same, only different.” Wind and weather, rain, snow, sleet and hail, freezes and thaws, droughts or deluges orchestrate a symphony of color and light, texture, structure and character.  Depending on the annual rainfall and the yearly climatic conditions – lush or parched – we have abundant harvests and happy farmers, or not.

Waterfalls_wallpapers_197This year, this spring, we are experiencing a severe drought in southwestern Colorado. Much of the state is the same, or worse. Water is precious, at a premium these days. The new gold. Or the old gold, if you think about it. Like clean air, it is something we often take for granted. Like so many things in life, here one day and gone the next. Until it is threatened, we humans seem to forget how essential a clean, healthy natural environment is to our sustenance and success, let alone survival.

And now we are in the last zodiac month of spring, the Gemini month of transmutation, when we become restless and ready to go – somewhere, anywhere. Just the movement of tires on pavement seems to calm the soul. We are morphing into summer. Graduation ceremonies and parties, backyard barbeques and dreams of swimming pools, mountain lakes and rolling rivers fill our heads and hearts with visions of adventure and themes of possibility.  Curiosity compels us up and out.

motoHDbasilI have noticed a lot of motorcycles on the highway lately. The sound of roaring engines on their way west to Utah or east to Telluride calls me to drop what I’m doing and hit the road. But, of course, there is work to do here, right here at home. Tomato, basil and pepper seeds I planted in early April are now ready to go outside. It’s warm today – in the low 80’s – and I hope we’ve past last frost.  The garlic patch I put in the ground last October is going gang-busters. My little spinach, lettuce, radish, scallion garden is showing promise. I need to get out and weed, plant green beans, peas, pumpkins and carrots. Turning a little patch of dirt into a food bank, what a concept.

yucca4The yucca cactus we transplanted from our pinon juniper forest years ago is in bloom, along with the little red barrilitos, and the beaver tail is on its way. Here it is, another mutating spring, another Gemini month in the revolving wheel of flora, fauna, fate and fortune. Same thing, only different. And don’t forget to take note of this week’s upending, duality-rich, paradoxical Gemini new Moon on June 8th @ 9:56 am MDT. Start your engines!

Aries (Mar. 20-Apr. 19) A variety of mental, emotional and psychological ups and downs have you juggling head, heart and soul in an attempt to make the best of your present scene and situation.  Many deep and profound experiences have come your way over the last few years. Understanding the meaning and message behind the mysterious synchronicity of our life lessons is key to unlocking its golden doors. Find the key.

Taurus (Apr. 19-May 20) A trend toward the watery world of emotions begins this week as loving Venus in intuitive Cancer opens floodgates of sensing and feeling.  You may find yourself instinctively knowing how to put others at ease or calm anxiety and fear. Somehow, you are tapping into the invisible and vibrational thought field of the akasha, picking up on psychic information and ancient wisdom. Trust your heart and go with the flow.

Gemini (May 20-June 20) The June 8th Gemini new Moon begins your mental/emotional year as the Sun and Moon join heart and head in the annual rebirth of soul and spirit. Balance perception with intuition as you ride the tides of change and expansion in your personal, social and professional worlds. Others see you as a seeker, explorer, professor, philosopher and guru of sorts. Truth is, you have seen more than most. Share your wisdom and experience.

Cancer (June 20-July 22) As Mercury and Venus in Cancer trine serious Saturn in seductive Scorpio and numinous Neptune in compassionate Pisces, you may find yourself swimming in an ocean of emotion,  lost in a sea of dreams or simply working hard to keep your heart open and head above water. Bits and pieces of the metaphysical puzzle are coming together. Cultivate patience and remember the beauty.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 22) Gemini is intimately linked with thought and perception, and this week’s new Moon lunation illuminates a kaleidoscope of new ideas and information regarding cherished hopes and dreams. Many of them are linked to friends and associates, comrades and camaraderie. Open your heart to fresh perspectives and ideas. Listen to what others have to say. The most important information comes from the least expected sources.

Virgo (Aug. 22-Sep. 22) Prepare yourself for a week of powerful new beginnings and golden opportunity. The Sun and Moon are coming together in a symbiotic joining of support and encouragement where you want and need it most. The hopes, dreams and wishes you have regarding your personal success and achievement are aligning in a fortuitous fashion. Manifestation comes via good humor, focus and  self-care.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 22) Wild and wooly, crazy and chaotic, the last several weeks have been a stretch as well as a stunning lesson in self-awareness. Home and family life and relationships have taken their toll, you’ve had to be realistic and patient in the face of upsetting disappointments and challenges. The good news: you’ve passed with flying colors. Survival and success depend on good self-care. No joke, recovery first.

Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 21) An unusually powerful week and month emerge as a water-sign trines align you with the deepest, most mysterious and metaphysically potent forces in the universe. The trick is in keeping a positive, optimistic attitude and grateful, altruistic approach to each and every situation and circumstance that presents itself. Recognizing the great importance of your part is the golden key. Keep in touch with you. No residue.

Sagittarius (Nov. 21-Dec. 20) Wow! The recent full Moon lunar eclipse in early Gemini/Sagittarius set off fireworks and threw dynamite under the most stubborn people and established institutions in your life. Now that you have released yourself from the prisons and confines of other’s expectations, what about your own? It is time to start fresh in relationships and commitments. Don’t say it if you can’t do it. Be impeccable with your word.

Capricorn (Dec. 20-Jan. 19) Fresh off the latest Uranus/Pluto square and three eclipses, you may be feeling released and reborn, ready to start over and begin again. Any and all self-defeating or self-destructive behaviors have been – and continue to be – exposed, in both yourself and others. The conscious choice is truth, honesty and integrity, no matter what. Follow a path of enlightened compassion and spiritual strength. The rest is easy.

Aquarius (Jan. 19-Feb. 18) If you find that you are feeling over-worked, over-burdened and over-amped where responsibility is concerned, don’t feel like the Lone Ranger. There are too many people in the same over-loaded boat, and it’s time to lighten up. There is a huge reason that the adage “health is wealth” has been around so long. It is one of the world’s golden truths. Take care of yourself! Take a break! Healthy, wealthy and WISE!

Pisces (Feb. 18-Mar. 20) Home life begins anew each year in June for the Fish. Flowers and family, summer’s long, languid days and warm nights translate as a time of personal renewal and regeneration. Take a trip down memory lane, reconnect with that little boy or girl inside and treat him or her like a prince or princess. Be kind and gentle with yourself and others as the season unfolds with beauty and grace. Live in harmony.
