Attend A Native Plant Class at Lizard Head

Learn to identify at least 45 native plants, scientific names, characteristics of plant families and how to “key out” and ID plants in the field and discover how to use natives in your home landscape and protect against invasive non-native plant through a course offered by Colorado State Extension of San Miguel/Montrose Counties.

The Native Plant Class takes place on three consecutive Fridays starting July 12, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The instructors are Yvette Henson, SMC/CSU extension/Horticulture Director and Connie Colter, Certified Native Plant Master Trainee. Class size is limited to 10 people. Tuition is $90 (for all 3 classes) Register by July 1, 2013.

These classes can be taken freelance, earning you a Colorado Flora Certificate or with the intention of becoming certified.  If you are thinking of becoming a certified Native Plant Master you will want to purchase the Colorado Flora- Western Slope by William Weber.  We have these for sale at the Extension office for $27.50, 1120 Summit Street, Norwood, CO., tel: 970-327-4393.

“If mother nature cooperates, we will be greeted by an amazing variety of wildflowers and some of the most beautiful views in western Colorado, but please come prepared for the elements,” said Mary Watson of CSU.

Lizard Head Pass is located approximately 20 mi. South of Telluride on Hwy 145.
