Mountain Munchkins Child Care and Preschool, operated by the Town of Mountain Village, hosts its sixth annual Touch-A-Truck fundraiser to benefit the childcare center’s infant, toddler, and preschool programs.

Children of all ages will have the chance to touch, climb on, sit in the driver’s seat and have a picture taken with their favorite service vehicle and work equipment; all manner of trucks, buses and fire engines will be available for exploration. In addition, trick horse Comanche will make a repeat appearance.

“My favorite thing about Touch-A-Truck is that the ambulance gives you balloons,” said six-year-old Townes Merritt. But for Munchkin Lola Neyens the highlights are riding the horse and “the policeman’s car.”

Touch-A-Truck takes place Saturday, June 29, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Telluride Middle/High School parking lot. It is open to the public; admission is $5 per adult and child. Patrons are encouraged to join Munchkins’ parents and kids for a BBQ lunch and bake sale for a small additional fee. All proceeds will help support Mountain Munchkins.

“This year we are raising money for enrichment activities, learning tools, and scholarships for both our infant/toddler program and preschool,” explained Mountain Munchkins Director Kathleen Merritt.

To support such an effort, according to Hilary Swenson, one of Touch-A-Truck parent organizers, the silent auction and raffle prize drawing will return this year, with proceeds benefiting Mountain Munchkins.

“We are selling raffle tickets and will have three drawings at the event for a chance to win a 2013-14 ski pass, two Ride Festival passes, or a 2013 Telluride Blues and Brews Festival pass,” said Swenson. “We really appreciate everyone coming out to support our Munchkins; this event would not be possible without our teachers and parents who volunteer and donate items to make this happen.”

Munchkins are exposed to a diverse, child-centered curriculum with plenty of opportunity for hands-on learning and exploration.
