Second Chance: Meet Godric & Shadow

Second Chance: Meet Godric & Shadow

Hello humans, my name is Godric. If you’ve been to the Second Chance shelter recently you’ve probably seen me sleeping in my favorite bed. I sleep a lot in the afternoon because I spend mornings exploring the house and playing with my friends. I also like to entertain the staff in the at the start of the day because while I may be big for a kitten, I’m still only five-months-old and the best part about being a baby is that you get a hall pass to be silly and ham it up.

I’m an energetic, fun, adventurer who loves to play – particularly with other cats. But I can also imitate a mature cat and just hang on the couch or stretch out in the sun (in all kinds of funny positions).  So this all sounds like the cat of your dreams – then I am your guy– come adopt me today!

Not to be outdone in the ability to take long naps in the sun, if you prefer a canine to the feline types, I am your guy. My name is Shadow and I am a wonderful, nine-year-old old purebred black Lab, who loves to play fetch and go for walks. Like most Labs, I am very experienced at giving love and attention, which I did very well with my former family. Through no fault of their own, they could no longer care for me and brought me to Second Chance so I could find a new family who had the means. It is a tough blow to be homeless at my age, and so I hope that I don’t have to wait long for my new people. My main goal in life is to love and be loved. And I would be very happy to have that happen sooner rather than later.

I love kids, other dogs, am house-trained, healthy, and I walk well on a leash. All the staff here really seem to appreciate my enthusiasm and pure joy of chasing balls. My other favorite things here at Second Chance is hanging out at the little dog pools with my dog pals sipping Pina Coladas until the sun goes down and cuddling with volunteers.

Don’t let my age fool you – I am not slowing down! Just show me a leash and you’ll see what I am talking about: I hold my head up high, tail wagging and a big fat doggy grin on my face. To me, it does not matter where you are going, it’s just about who’s coming with you!

Editor’s note: It’s no secret. The Telluride region is dog heaven. Well, pet heaven. Unless you are one of our furry friends who gets caught in the maw of neglect and abuse. Then heaven is on hold until Second Chance Humane Society comes to the rescue. Second Chance is the region’s nonprofit dedicated to saving animals’ lives and promoting responsible pet parenting and human-animal bond. In her weekly blog, executive director Kelly Goodin profiles at least one, generally two of the many animals now living at the no-kill shelter, Angel Ridge Shelter, a dog and a cat, hoping to find them loving permanent homes. The column is sponsored by Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch & Kennel, who from time to time exercises his skills as a dog whisperer, partnering with Kelly and her staff to help train a particularly challenging animal.

By the by, there is no better place to park your pup than Cottonwood whenever you head out of town (for locals) or are heading to town and staying somewhere that does not allow pets. Consider joining Ted’s Very Important Dog (VID) Club for added benies. (Details on Ted’s website.)

Second Chance Humane Society Animal Resource Center and Thrift Shop are both located in Ridgway, but service San Miguel, Ouray & Montrose Counties. Call the SCHS Helpline at 626-2273 to report a lost pet, learn about adopting a homeless pet, or about the SCHS Spay/Neuter, Volunteer, Feral Cat, or other Programs.
