This initial 2016 lineup includes many of the brilliant artists who have defined the adventurous genre of “Telluride Bluegrass” for the past 42 years.
Among the new highlights of this 43rd Annual lineup are: the Telluride Bluegrass debut of legendary New Zealand songsmith Neil Finn; a special reunion of Bela Fleck & The Flecktones; the 14th year for the “Queen of Telluride” Emmylou Harris; iconic American songwriter John Prine; the “King of Telluride” Sam Bush’s 42nd year headlining the festival; Swiss chamber bluegrass trio the Kruger Brothers performing works with the Kontras Quartet; acclaimed Canadian spoken-word virtuoso Shane Koyczan (performing the Sunday morning set); and the only appearance of the all-star Telluride House Band featuring six of the world’s most revered acoustic musicians Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Edgar Meyer (who celebrates his 25th Telluride Bluegrass!), Stuart Duncan, and Bryan Sutton.
This initial lineup represents about two-thirds of the festival’s main stage lineup.
Watch for additional artist announcements in the coming months, leading up to the complete single-day lineup by early March.
While 4-day passes sold-out faster than ever in the festival’s history, single-day tickets for Thursday and Sunday are still available.
Four-day festival passes sold-out within 30 minutes of going on sale December 4. In those first 30 minutes, Planet Bluegrass received orders from nearly every U.S. state and numerous foreign countries, with online orders to Planet Bluegrass’s servers arriving as quickly as 25 orders per second.
Saturday and Friday single-day tickets sold-out within a few days of going on sale.
Please Note: Discount 4-day passes are still available for San Miguel County residents, exclusively at Telluride Music Company (333 West Colorado Ave.). Each San Miguel County resident may purchase up to two 4-day passes at the discounted price of $220 (which includes a $10 discount from the advance price of $230) plus a $3 Telluride Music Company service fee. Residents of San Miguel County must present a proof of residency (local ID, utility bill) at time of purchase. These special discounted locals tickets must be purchased in-person. Cash or local checks only. For store details: 970.728.9592 or TellurideMusic.com.
For those looking for one of the sold-out 4-day passes, Planet Bluegrass offers several hopeful options.
Any returned tickets will be resold (for face value) beginning later this winter on Tuesdays in the “Returned Ticket Resale” section of shop.bluegrass.com.
As well, Festivarians are encouraged to buy/sell tickets (for face value) on the “Telluride Ticket Exchange” section of Festivarian.com.
Planet Bluegrass strongly discourages Festivarians from purchasing tickets for more than face value.
The 2014 Telluride Bluegrass Festival was named “Music Festival of the Year” at the live music industry’s prestigious 26th Annual Pollstar Awards. This marked the first time any Colorado event received one of Pollstar’s festival awards.
The commemorative book leather-bound book, “Telluride Bluegrass Festival: Forty Years of Festivation” is available now at fine booksellers around Colorado and from Amazon.
