SAF’s Young People’s Theater Overview, 2017-18 Season

Telluride’s Sheridan Arts Foundation Young People’s Theater has opened enrollment for five of its classes and workshops for the 2017-2018 school year and classes are filling up fast. Enrollment is on a first-come, first serve basis, and will close August 29, 2017. Register here.

Budding actors ages 5-18 are encouraged to participate in the following programs: 

 

ADVENTURES IN ACTING

Grades Kindergarten, Grades 1 & 2

PERFORMANCE: OCTOBER 25, 5 p.m..

Use your imagination and bring an exciting story to life!  This introductory class is perfect for young thespians who enjoy games, costumes, and storytelling. Each class culminates in an energetic performance on the Opera House stage. We pick up students at the Telluride Elementary School at 3:10 p.m. and serve a healthy snack before class. Enrollment for this class is limited to 24 students (12 kindergarteners & 12 kids in Grades 1-2)

 

PARENTS AND KIDS ONSTAGE: 

PERIL ON THE SAN MIGUEL (A MELODRAMA)

Grades 3-5 (and one parent per child)

Performance: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 1-7 p.m.

This is the Fourth Annual PARENTS AND KIDS ONSTAGE, which is always a blast! Step back into the Wild West, where heroes, heroines, villains and a mysterious bank robber bring Peril to the banks of the San Miguel!

 

MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP: SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL, JR.

Grades 6-8 Performances DECEMBER 1-3, 2017.

An adaption of several Dr. Seuss books, this musical follows the adventures of Horton The Elephant, The Cat In The Hat, Mayzie La Bird, and many other beloved Dr. Seuss characters! This is a full musical theater production that combines stage work, character development, choreography and music.

 

MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP: MARY POPPINS

Grades 9-12 Performance FEBRUARY 2, 3, 5, 2018.

Adapted from the beloved children’s books with the well-known music from the movie, “Mary Poppins” follows the iconic nanny, Mary Poppins, as she brings love, laughter, and adventure to the Banks house. This is a full musical theater production that combines stage work, character development, choreography and music.

 

MUSICAL THEATER WORKSHOP: JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

Grades 3-5 Performances MAY 4-6, 6 p.m.

Adapted from the adored Roald Dahl book, “James And The Giant Peach” follows James and his magical insect friends as they journey across the ocean in a giant peach. This is a condensed musical theater production that combines stage work, character development, choreography and music.
