The film follows a pride of lions and a family of cheetahs living and surviving on the African savannah. Released on Earth Day, April 22, 2011, a percentage of the film’s proceeds went toward the African Wildlife Foundation to support the preservation of the Amboseli Wildlife Corridor in Kenya. A month after its release, ticket sales had already saved 50,000 acres of land.

“African Cats” tells the story of two animal families through stunning documentary-style camera work. The plot centers on Mara, a young lion cub, and her mother Layla, and a cheetah named Sita who is raising her five beautiful newborns in the wild. In the savanna, it is a constant struggle to survive, and many different species must compete for food, water, and territory. Directed by Alastair Fothergill (“Chimpanzee” and “Earth”) and Keith Scholey (“Bears”).

Sunday, April 27th at 4:00 p.m. ● Michael D. Palm Theatre for the Performing Arts ● Rated G ● FREE TO ALL ● Running time 89 minutes.
