At the May 28th Telluride High School Awards ceremony, graduating senior, Brian Ensor, received the second annual $20,000 Neil Armstrong Scholarship. Ensor will be attending the University of Colorado in Boulder where he will pursue a degree in Computer Science. Ensor was selected based on his outstanding academics, strong interest in technology and computer science activities, dedication, and perseverance and financial need.

Due to the strong applicant pool this year, the Neil Armstrong Scholarship Committee determined than an additional merit scholarship was deserved. Morgan Rummel, from Norwood High School was awarded the first Neil Armstrong Merit Scholarship of $4,000. Rummel will be attending the Laramie County Community College and plans to transfer to the University of Wyoming, where he will be pursuing a degree in architectural engineering. Rummel graduated top of his class, was active in his community and school. He also demonstrated a strong work ethic and perseverance.

The Neil Armstrong Scholarship Fund was created by friends and family of Neil Armstrong to honor the achievements and character of the late American hero and astronaut who died in 2012. The Neil Armstrong Scholarship is awarded each year to a regional high school student pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM).

Now in its 21st year, the Strokes of Genius Scholarship has become a proud Telluride tradition, and this year six scholarships were awarded at the Telluride Graduating Seniors Awards Ceremony. It is the largest and longest running local scholarships available for Telluride’s graduating seniors, awarded to Telluride students who demonstrate financial need, academic excellence, exceptional character, community involvement and leadership potential.

This year the Strokes of Genius Fund honors the academic achievements and community involvement of six Telluride High School graduates. They include: Connor Courter ($5,000), attending Colorado University in Boulder; Lizzy MacMillan ($5,000), attending Macalester College in Saint Paul Minnesota; Karla Martinez ($5,000), attending Mesa State University; Brooke Skelton ($5,000), attending California Polytechnic State University; Sarah Fulton ($2,500), attending University of Colorado in Boulder; and Erin Kean ($2,500) attending University of Colorado in Boulder.
