Telluride Fiber Arts was the brainchild of Val Levy Franzese, a multi-talented artist (and owner of Black Bear Trading).

“Art-crafts are part of Telluride History,” Val explains.”Wives of the miners made quilts and knitted hats, scarves, sweaters and mittens to keep their families warm through the long, cold winter months.Weaving is a core element of the Navajo nation just south and west of us.”

A bit of hand sewing will be demonstrated, but is optional. Your kit will include batting, fusible, and your choice of fabrics from Betty’s stash for the backing and top of your quilt.  You’re also welcome to bring any special fabrics from home you’d like to use. You’ll leave the class with a finished or nearly finished landscape quilt measuring approximately 6″ by 9″, and batting and fused fabric to create another miniature quilt at home.  Bring along some sharp scissors for cutting fabric, if you have them, and a few photos for inspiration.  Some photos will be provided for your use as well.
