Second Chance: Thrift Shop, Adoption Sale Saturday

Second Chance: Thrift Shop, Adoption Sale Saturday

It has been one month since Second Chance Humane Society’s new ownership of the Telluride Thrift Shop and in that time there have been some changes at the Shop. But before we get to that I wanted to invite you all to a big celebration at Second Chance’s Telluride Thrift Shop taking place Saturday September 6, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. The celebration, promoting second chances for donated items and adoptable pets, offers a storewide sale (10-50% off) and Second Chance pets onsite also with 10-50% reductions in adoption fees. There will be live music, doggie ice cream, door prizes and more to enhance the celebrations!

At the event you will be able to check out the physical changes of new signs and a different look to the store front, also changes to all the prices at the Shop. Second Chance has shifted the pricing index to simulate the approach that made their Ridgway Shop so successful – price to sell. Trusting that donations will continue to flow in to support this new approach, Second Chance wants to enhance the store appeal to locals and visitors alike and keep donations flowing through.

Donating and shopping at either of Second Chance’s Shops directly supports their animal welfare programs and services – such as their ability to rescue pets like me.  My name is Ryder and I am an American Shelter Dog of only 8 – 9 months young who has already experienced some pretty rough times but has not let it impact my optimistic and friendly temperament.

I was abused by my people before being rescued by a policeman.  Unfortunately my leg was fractured from the abuse.  But since then my life has been improving.   I was provided medical treatment and my leg has healed – I just completed my vet-ordered period of activity restriction (so not fun!) and am ready to go!  I am outgoing and good natured despite my past and ready for a home where I am loved and treated with kindness.

Thrift shopping also supports Second Chance’s ability to rescues cats as well – such as Jezebel who is a lovely short(ish) haired 2 year old stray.  She is very friendly with people and has an inquisitive fun personality that will make her a great family member and companion.  She will most likely not be at the Telluride Sale and Adoption event (cats are big on parties – although with her outgoing nature she may join the fun anyway) but you can meet her at the Second Chance Shelter in Ridgway.

Editor’s note: It’s no secret. The Telluride region is dog heaven. Well, pet heaven. Unless you are one of our furry friends who gets caught in the maw of neglect and abuse. Then heaven is on hold until Second Chance Humane Society comes to the rescue. Second Chance is the region’s nonprofit dedicated to saving animals’ lives and promoting responsible pet parenting and human-animal bond. In her weekly blog, executive director Kelly Goodin profiles at least one, generally two of the many animals now living at the no-kill shelter, Angel Ridge Shelter, a dog and a cat, hoping to find them loving permanent homes. The column is sponsored by Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch & Kennel, who from time to time exercises his skills as a dog whisperer, partnering with Kelly and her staff to help train a particularly challenging animal.

By the by, there is no better place to park your pup than Cottonwood whenever you head out of town (for locals) or are heading to town and staying somewhere that does not allow pets. Consider joining Ted’s Very Important Dog (VID) Club for added benies. (Details on Ted’s website.)

Second Chance Humane Society Animal Resource Center and Thrift Shop are both located in Ridgway, but service San Miguel, Ouray & Montrose Counties. Call the SCHS Helpline at 626-2273 to report a lost pet, learn about adopting a homeless pet, or about the SCHS Spay/Neuter, Volunteer, Feral Cat, or other Programs.
