Second Chance: A Clean Dog Saves Lives

Second Chance: A Clean Dog Saves Lives

This Saturday, September 27, Second Chance teams up with Clark’s Market in Telluride for a great fun-raising opportunity for you and your dogs.

The offer is an end-of-season dog wash complete with people and dog food, a dog talent show (with prizes!), educational materials for pet parents and, best of all, proceeds go directly to Second Chance animal welfare programs and services.

Join us from 10 am – 2 pm for a squeaky clean time!

This event will also be attended by adoptable pets, like me, from Second Chance. So you can bring your dogs, get them clean, eat some yummy food, win some prizes, provide a great social opportunity for your dogs, support an organization that saves animals’ lives, and adopt a new pet into your family all in one fine day!

My name is Jake and I want to give big wags to Clark’s Market for putting this event together for the love of homeless dogs like me and big licks to the LDGiles Art & Design, Alpen Schatz & Telluride Fire Department for sponsoring and participating in this event.

Unless adopted before Saturday, I will be attending the event, arriving in style in Second Chance’s Mobile Mutts & Meows limo. I am going for the “Handsomest Dog” prize!

I am a wonderful five-year-old yellow lab who loves to play catch and just hang out with people all day.  Sadly my former family could no longer care for me, despite me being an excellent dog.  I am not letting this get me down though as I know my new family will stick with me once we meet.

I am great with kids, love to run and play and would make a great hiking dog. I am a big boy – just shy of 100 pounds – but I am gentle and have had some obedience training. I do well with other dogs but am not super fond of rough-and-tumble play. I prefer running and playing with a ball or rope toy.  Oh, and of course…I love water!

I look forward to meeting you and your freshly cleaned dog this Saturday! Until then I will be perfecting my resume for the job of being your new dog. I just need to work out that fetching the slippers thing and I am good to go.

Amethyst

I do like little kittens too and Amethyst is just one of the many fun happy kittens here at Second Chance ready to go home with new families. Some are quiet cuddlers; others are funny outgoing balls of fur. Amethyst is a beautiful black-and-white, very friendly little girl.

Editor’s note: It’s no secret. The Telluride region is dog heaven. Well, pet heaven. Unless you are one of our furry friends who gets caught in the maw of neglect and abuse. Then heaven is on hold until Second Chance Humane Society comes to the rescue. Second Chance is the region’s nonprofit dedicated to saving animals’ lives and promoting responsible pet parenting and human-animal bond. In her weekly blog, executive director Kelly Goodin profiles at least one, generally two of the many animals now living at the no-kill shelter, Angel Ridge Shelter, a dog and a cat, hoping to find them loving permanent homes. The column is sponsored by Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch & Kennel, who from time to time exercises his skills as a dog whisperer, partnering with Kelly and her staff to help train a particularly challenging animal.

Ted Hoff & friend

By the by, there is no better place to park your pup than Cottonwood whenever you head out of town (for locals) or are heading to town and staying somewhere that does not allow pets. Consider joining Ted’s Very Important Dog (VID) Club for added benies. (Details on Ted’s website.)

Second Chance Humane Society Animal Resource Center and Thrift Shop are both located in Ridgway, but service San Miguel, Ouray & Montrose Counties. Call the SCHS Helpline at 626-2273 to report a lost pet, learn about adopting a homeless pet, or about the SCHS Spay/Neuter, Volunteer, Feral Cat, or other Programs.
