“They begin their journey on a bicycle pedaled by Kermit, but friends accumulate along the way, and they change vehicles to accommodate them…This appealing children’s adventure movie has numerous scenes which do homage to classic films, and features a huge cast of Hollywood greats, from Edgar Bergen to Orson Welles, in cameo roles.  A great box-office success,” wrote New York Times

Jim Henson’s classic tells the story of an epic road trip: Kermit’s adventure to Hollywood in pursuit of his dream of making it in show business. Along the way, he meets a cast of lifelong friends – Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and the gang.  This revolutionary film was the first to depict a hand puppet with its entire body appearing onscreen. Up until Kermit’s famous bike scene, hand puppets were only seen from the waist up. The song, “Rainbow Connection” was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.

“”The Muppet Movie”” itself is one of those origin stories so beloved by comic books. We’ve learned how Spiderman came into his extraordinary powers, and now here are the earliest days of the Muppets,” wrote Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times, “We get to know all the Muppets better than we could on their television show. They turn out, somehow, to have many of the same emotions and motivations that we do. They are vain and hopeful, selfish and generous, complicated and true. They mirror ourselves, except that they’re a little nicer.”
