03 Jan Telluride Jazz Fest: Guest of Honor Announced
The Guest of Honor for the 39th annual Telluride Jazz Festival is two-time Grammy Award winning saxophonist Ernie Watts.
Starting his vibrant career at the tender age of 13, Watts has been featured on over 500 recordings with artists ranging from Thelonious Monk to Frank Zappa. His years in the booming Los Angeles music scene included noteworthy work on countless movies scores, jumping in on West Coast Motown sessions, being enlisted by mega-pop stars, and playing fiery Jazz in late night clubs. All of that led to touring extensively with greats like Charlie Haden and Pat Metheny for years.
Currently Watts spends his year globe trotting in Europe and Asia performing with elite outfits, and giving back to Jazz music by conducting clinics and master classes for students and professional musicians.
