Second Chance: Prancer & Tundra

Second Chance: Prancer & Tundra

It is a New Year, so new things are meant to happen that will give me a new outlook on life, right? So what exactly is something really new that could happen to a homeless pet and allow that pet to feel transformed? Hmmm, how about a new family?!?!  My name is Prancer and I am very excited about what 2015 has to offer.

I am a four-month-young Chihuahua puppy – yes hard to imagine how my siblings and I could have been abandoned at such a young age– with a vivacious personality. And I am quite stunning, with a creamy chocolate coat and tan highlights running down my cheeks and chest. I also have big, brown, curious eyes that are full of love.

Despite my rough start in life, my outgoing personality immediately wins people over. I am bold and playful and I do this endearing thing with your shoelaces, tugging at them for attention. I also am very generous with affectionate puppy kisses.

Lap time is a must because I love unwinding with cuddles and pets behind my ears during my afternoon siesta. I am ready for a home that will embrace and support my exuberant spirit, but with the patience and time to teach me things all the things I need to learn.

But just so you know, we are not limited to puppies at the shelter, we also have kitties. At only two-months-young, Tundra is our baby. He is short-haired and white with some grey tabby patches and wide green eyes. He is agile and quick to explore the nooks and crannies of the shelter’s cat house. Though he meets people quietly and timidly at first, with a gentle approach, he quickly warms up to affectionate cuddles.

Second Chance has rescued a lot of adorable rock star young pets who are waiting for a family to take them on. This means not only providing us with a home, but also the time to work with our abundant energy. Training and enrichment activities as well as social interactions with both people and animals will do amazing things to benefit everyone involved.

I hope to see you soon!

Editor’s note: It’s no secret. The Telluride region is dog heaven. Well, pet heaven. Unless you are one of our furry friends who gets caught in the maw of neglect and abuse. Then heaven is on hold until Second Chance Humane Society comes to the rescue. Second Chance is the region’s nonprofit dedicated to saving animals’ lives and promoting responsible pet parenting and human-animal bond. In her weekly blog, executive director Kelly Goodin profiles at least one, generally two of the many animals now living at the no-kill shelter, Angel Ridge Shelter, a dog and a cat, hoping to find them loving permanent homes. The column is sponsored by Ted Hoff of Cottonwood Ranch & Kennel, who from time to time exercises his skills as a dog whisperer, partnering with Kelly and her staff to help train a particularly challenging animal.

By the by, there is no better place to park your pup than Cottonwood whenever you head out of town (for locals) or are heading to town and staying somewhere that does not allow pets. Consider joining Ted’s Very Important Dog (VID) Club for added benies. (Details on Ted’s website.)

Second Chance Humane Society Animal Resource Center and Thrift Shop are both located in Ridgway, but service San Miguel, Ouray & Montrose Counties. Call the SCHS Helpline at 626-2273 to report a lost pet, learn about adopting a homeless pet, or about the SCHS Spay/Neuter, Volunteer, Feral Cat, or other Programs.
