The Telluride Jazz Festival’s educational initiatives represent excellence in music education.
The Telluride Jazz Festival’s Artists in the Schools programs offer informal music education to area youth. Visiting musicians in town for the WinterJazz programs give their time, talent, and energy to the program, performing and interacting with area students.
Jazz contacts schools throughout the region and invites all interested students to join in the performance at the Michael D. Palm Theater. Performances are followed by an open question-and-answer session where students get to ask the performers the details of their craft. Jazz collaborates closely with the Telluride School District and the new Music Director Tuck Gillette who generously support this program.
On Friday, February 6, Telluride Jazz welcomes Nosostros to town. The group will offer workshops in Latin music and performance at The Palm in the Middle School/High School. That evening, Nosostros is in concert at the Fly Me to the Moon Saloon. Doors 9 p.m.; show time, 9:30 p.m.
Nosotros is known for seamlessly combining Latin rhythms with elements of rock, salsa, jazz and cumbia to create an original sound that is unmistakably its own.

The award-winning ensemble began as a guitar trio in 1994 and was based in the southern New Mexico town of Las Cruces. The band gained an almost immediate following. During that time, Nosotros successfully self-produced two albums, Palomo and Pico, both of which received excellent reviews and sold very well.
By September 2001, Nosotros had grown into a six-piece band and relocated to the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area, firmly establishing themselves as one of the most popular bands in New Mexico. In February 2002, Nosotros caught the ear of percussionist/producer Chris Trujillo, best known for his work with Tom Petty, The Black Crowes, Rod Stewart, Toto and Diana Ross. In November of 2003, Nosotros released their third album, self-titled Nosotros, produced by Trujillo. The album received numerous awards, cementing the group’s reputation as a Latin music powerhouse.
In 2006, Nosotros released their fourth album, Llena La Alma, featuring GrammyAward-winning engineer Doug Geist and again was recognized by the NM Music Awards. The song “Hermosa” was also named as a finalist in the prestigious John Lennon Song Writing Competition.
Nosotros is now a nine piece band featuring Felipe Ruibal (Lead Vocals), Carlos Fontana (Lead Vocals), Shane Derk (Electric/Synth Guitar), Randy Sanchez (Electric Tres), Manuel Ramirez (Alto & Tenor Saxophones), David Weeks (Trumpet), Gilbert Uribe (Bass Guitar), Ricky Carrido (Congas) and Dennis Jasso (Drums).
Nosotros released its self-produced, fifth album, Ver El Sol in 2012.
