Telluride Adaptive Sports Program: Rockin’ at the Opera, 3/6/2015

Have you seen a wounded Veteran skiing with someone in a blue jacket out on a black run on the Telluride mountain? How about a special needs kid from the reservation having a ball on Double Cabins? Or a young man who is autistic first tasting independence on skis up in Ute Park? Those blue jackets up on the mountain helping someone with a disability are worn by the instructors and volunteers with Telluride Adaptive Sports Program (TASP), and your opportunity to have a fun evening and help support this great organization is this Friday night, March 6, 2015 at TASP’s Rockin’ at the Opera at Telluride’s Sheridan Opera House.

Rockin’ at the Opera is TASP’s most important fundraiser of the year. The funds raised help the Program serve local and regional school programs, over 100 veterans and their families just in the last year. Telluride Adaptive Sports Program had to change its name several years ago because the increasing involvement in summer sports, including hiking, biking, rock climbing, river rafting, and fishing. It needs to be emphasized that TASP does not turn away students because of financial constraints. Your contributions help make this great resource available to children and adults who may also have money issues.

I hope I’ve sold you. If so, I’ll see you Rockin’ at the Opera Friday evening, March 6, 2015. Be forewarned, however: Involvement with TASP can prove habit-forming. Contributing is a gateway. In my case, it started that way, and I am now in my 16th season as a TASP volunteer, with no end in sight. Caveat emptor!!!!
