Mountain Village Mayor Dan Jansen, Robin Watkinson of Land Title and THD Chair Larry Mallard close the deal bringing a new facility one step closer to fruition.

The Telluride Hospital District officially closed on the site that will be the future home of the region’s new medical center yesterday.

The future site of the region’s medical center–located behind The Market at Mountain Village and Mountain Village Town Hall– was also the preferred site of THD board, a Citizen Advisory Committee, and an independent consultant hired to evaluate potential sites for a medical facility in the region.

Mountain Village Town Council unanimously agreed in January to convey roughly a one-acre parcel to the THD at de minimus cost.

“We are thankful and grateful to Mayor Jansen and the Mountain Village Town Council for conveying this parcel. We now officially have a piece of dirt on which to build our new facility,” said Telluride Hospital District Larry Mallard.

With the real estate portion of the deal complete, along with preliminary design and facility programming, THD is poised to move on to fundraising.

“We are confident that we can find a path to funding that will be the least impactful on tax payers as possible while still managing to build a state of the art facility,” said Mallard.
