Telluride’s Sheridan Arts Foundation’s Young People’s Theater proudly presents”Stuart Little.” Performed by students ages 8-10 at the Sheridan Opera House, Friday, July 17, 1 p.m. FREE.
Telluride’s young theatrical talent will once again be on display on Friday, July 17 at 1 p.m. for a free performance as part of the 5th annual Young People’s Theater Summer Spectacular.
The play is a creative take on E.B. White’s classic children’s tale. In the movie version of “Stuart Little,” the Little family adopts an orphaned mouse as their son. But in White’s tale, Stuart is a tiny boy who resembles a mouse in every way. SAFYPT Artistic Director Jennifer Julia chose to adapt the play to better connect with her young thespians.
“Because Stuart isn’t an actual mouse, but a boy who is different, the story becomes one that most kids can relate to,” Julia said. “This is the theme we explore in our musical: how it feels to be different and how we handle those feelings.”
Weighty topics aside, the play, like all SAFYPT productions, is chock full of catchy song and dance numbers, colorful characters, talking animals, amazing costumes, and hilarious jokes.
“Stuart Little” takes place at the historic Sheridan Opera House on Friday, July 17, 1 p.m.
