The holiday trifecta is now – phew! – past, but festivities in Telluride are far from over.

Case in point, Telluride TV is proud to host the Video Awards, an Oscar-style, red-carpet gala, which gives members of our community – as it turned out, a wide range of filmmakers from different backgrounds and skill levels – an opportunity to show their work and compete for cash prizes and a trophy.

The event takes place at the Sheridan Opera House this Saturday, January 9, 7 p.m.

This year’s judges are Telluride Mountainfilm’s Stash Wislocki and documentary filmmaker Suzan Beraza.

Awards will be presented in the following categories: Best Action/Outdoor; Comedy; Artistic; Student; and Professional films.

“Every year, the entries keep getting better and better, so it was hard to pick the winners out of so many great films,” said Beraza.

All the submitted films are available for viewing online here.

The Viewers Choice Award was determined by the greatest number of votes from the community and will also be presented the night of the event.

Once the event kicks off, Telluride TV will be live-streaming the filmmakers’ arrival on the red carpet, hosted by local fashion icons Sasha and Robin Jones.

Refreshments and cocktails will be available and the screening begins at 8 p.m., with Ashley Boling and Cat Lee Covert co-hosting as MCs.

Winning films from each category will be screened and the awards will be presented by mayors Sean Murphy and Dan Jansen, local favorites Hilaree O’Neill, Bob Baer, and other special guests.
