Telluride Mountainfilm is counting down the hours to its 38th annual festival, which will feature a packed schedule of documentary films, presentations, talks, art, ideas and inspiration over Memorial Day weekend.

Several last-minute additions and changes have been made to the schedule, including a free talk with artist-in-residence Chip Thomas; an insect cooking demonstration with film subject Jose Redon; and new Town Talk lineups. Check it out, and plan accordingl.!

Artist Talk: Chip Thomas

Saturday, 2:30 p.m., Ghost Town Patio

Chip Thomas, a doctor, artist and activist known for his bold installations on Navajo lands in Northern Arizona, installed a mural on the wall overlooking Telluride’s Ghost Town Coffee shop in early May that sparked many conversations on the street and social media. He’ll discuss public art and the power of imagery during this free talk, which will take place during the Ice Cream Social.

The Art of Eating Bugs: Cooking Demo

Saturday, 4 p.m., La Cocina patio

Jose Redon, a chef, farmer of escamoles (Mexican ant larvae) and subject in the film BUGS!, will work with La Cocina De Luz owner Lucas Price to demonstrate methods for cooking edible insects.

Library Program Change

Please note the following change in the Library schedule on Saturday:

“Tools for Grassroots Activists” has been moved to 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.

“Artists Talk: Father and Son, Subversive Ducks and National Parks” has been moved to 3:45 p.m.

• Coffee Talk Cancellation

Due to scheduling conflicts, the coffee talk titled “Exporting America’s Best Idea” on Monday at 8 a.m. at Hotel Telluride has been cancelled.

• New Coffee Talk Guest

Geralyn Dreyfous, founder of the Utah Film Center and a powerhouse in the documentary world, will join the Saturday Coffee & Conversation titled “Film Festival Strategy,” which will take place at 8 a.m. in the Ah Haa East Gallery.

• Booze Talk Guest Change

Ben Moon, Mountainfilm artist in residence, photographer and filmmaker behind the 2015 documentary Denali, will take the place of Lance Mackey in the Booze Talk “The Canine Connection” on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Smuggler’s.

• Terry Tempest Williams Book Signing

Terry Tempest Williams will be signing copies of her new book, The Hour of Land, Saturday at 6 p.m. at Between the Covers Bookstore, 224 W. Colorado Ave.

• Town Talk Broadcasts

KOTO Community Radio will broadcast the Coffee Talks taking place at Ah Haa West Gallery Saturday through Monday. In addition, it will broadcast the Booze & Banters taking place at Smuggler’s Brewpub Saturday and Sunday.
