Telluride’s young theatrical talent is soon to be on display in a performance of “The Lion King,” part of the 6th annual Young People’s Theater Summer Spectacular.

Be prepared to be blown away by what these 8-12 year-olds accomplished in under a week of rehearsal. That’s right: students have just one week to work on bringing the beloved characters in this hit show to life; they also learned about African storytelling and mask-making.

Inspired by the popular Broadway musical, the Sheridan Art Foundation’s version includes some of your favorite songs and tells the epic tale of a young lion Simba, as he tries to find his way in the great “Circle of Life.”

The show is the first production directed by the Young People’s Theatre’s new Artistic Director, Allie Scherich.

“I have been so impressed by all of the YPT students I’ve met in the past few months. I can’t wait for more opportunities to work with them,” Scherich said. “The Lion King’ provides so many fun characters, songs, and scenes that it makes for a challenging project. But at its heart, it is a touching story about finding your place in this world, which is so relatable”
