Hike into History:

Saturday, August 13: Geo-Caching, Bear Creek & Nellie Mine

Join Rudy Davison, a local expert on mining history, on a beautiful hike up Bear Creek. Participants will learn about Geo-Caching, what it is and how to join in on the fun. Hikers will also learn about the history surrounding the remnants of a prominent historic mine.

Meet at the Museum at 8:45 a.m. Hikers will leave promptly at 9 a.m. This is a one-way hike; participants can turn back at their leisure. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and extra layers.

Historic Walking Tours:

Every Thursday, June 2- August 25, 1 – 2:00 p.m. Meet at the Museum

Tickets: $15 Non-member ;$10 Museum Members (Includes Museum admission.) Purchase at the Museum or by phone.

Lone Tree Cemetery Tours

Every Friday starting September 2 – October 7, 1 p.m.

Don’t miss this unique look at Telluride’s history and the rugged people who lived, worked– and were buried here. Tours depart from the Lone Tree Cemetery pedestrian gate on Colorado Avenue at 1 p.m.

Lamplight Lone Tree Cemetery Tours

Last three Fridays in October 14, 21, 28, 6 p.m.

Hear the stories and legends of Telluride’s historic graveyard in the ambience of lantern light. Meet at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight.

Special Events:

Sunday, August 28, 6 – 9 p.m., An Evening with Ken Burns.

As part of the ongoing celebration of the 100th anniversary of America’s National Parks, join eminent documentary filmmaker Ken Burns for a screening of an episode from his documentary, “National Parks.” The screening will be followed by an audience Q&A with Burns and a book-signing.

Tickets are $25, non-members, $20 for members and $5 students (7 – 17).

Wednesday, September 21, 6 – 7 p.m., summer lecture, Surveying and Map Making. Free.

Monday, October 31, 7 – 9:30 p.m., Haunted Hospital. Gather your courage for a haunted journey through Telluride’s former hospital. Bring your friends and prepare to be spooked.

Fireside Chats:

This annual Telluride Historical Museum free lecture series delves into local historical topics through the lenses of authors, historical re-enactors, professors, geologists and more.

Women of Vice, Stories and Poems of Telluride’s Saloon Days:

Local poet Kierstin Bridger will share work from her latest collection of poems, Demimonde, followed by a conversation about the “sporting life” in a mining town’s popular red light district.

Rescues & Tragedies in the San Juan Mountains

Author and storyteller Kent Nelson will be discussing his recent book, which draws on decades of stories of harrowing rescues in the San Juan Mountains
