As communications director of Telluride Arts, Pepper Raper will be responsible for developing and executing communications strategies to promote the Telluride Arts District within and beyond our box canyon.

Pepper will also be putting out information about Telluride Arts programs and upcoming projects such as the Telluride Transfer Warehouse, Art + Architecture Weekend, and Small Grants for Artists.

It is a fitting new career for the (almost) six-year resident with a background in PR, a passion for art, and a strong sense of community.

“We are just thrilled to have Pepper on our team at Telluride Arts. In our 45th year, the organization is in a solid place, with a lot of history behind us and a very exciting few years ahead, especially with the Transfer Warehouse project,” said executive director Kate Jones.

While Telluride Arts was certainly sad to say goodbye to Britt Markey – she left to go back to art school in Barcelona – the transition has been smooth. During her tenure, among Britt’s major contributions was the launch of the Telluride Arts District brand, established in 2012.

“Pepper’s background in the arts and marketing make her an excellent fit as we advance the Arts District and the identity of the organization and our numerous programs. Pepper is an energetic, deeply creative, and an established Telluride resident We feel very fortunate to have her on board,” continued Kate.

Pepper Raper is a graduate of the University of Mississippi where she studied Communications, Spanish, and Art History. Pepper moved to Telluride in Fall 2011 and began working for Telluride Ski and Golf (TSG) as the Culinary Concierge. Later she moved into public relations for TSG where she worked for almost three years. While handling the ski resort’s PR, Raper garnered significant attention for Telluride by hosting national news outlets such as USA Today and The New York Times, as well as freelance writers, and representatives form various international media outlets.

Pepper has been highly involved in the community throughout her time in Telluride working with local organizations including Telluride Arts, Ah Haa School for the Arts, Telluride AIDS Benefit, Telluride Yoga Center, and the artist collective Deep Creek Experimental (better known as The Mine).

Telluride Arts offers support to local artists in a variety of ways: studio space, galleries, events, and small grants for artists. In 2013, Telluride became one of the first Certified Creative Districts in the state.

Telluride Arts developed branding and marketing for the Arts District, strengthened numerous diverse partnerships, led planning for Wayfinding and Space for the Arts, and recently contracted to restore the Telluride Transfer Warehouse.

Pepper Raper will aid Telluride Arts in its mission to elevate and promote a culture of the arts through communication.

Telluride Arts is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization established in 1971; incorporated in 1976. Its mission is to sustain, promote, and expand a culture of the arts in the Telluride Arts District, comprised of numerous institutions, artists, and events.
