From pendants to broaches, in Youngquist’s work, the eyes have it: eyes are the main motif and centerpiece of the artist’s colorfully surrealistic line. They are meant to lend the wearer an additional lens for seeing  – and being seen.

“I have always been fascinated with the intersection of humans, animals, and mythology. My creative pursuits are centered on exploring those connections. Beads form the backbone of my materials. The colorful, textured, three-dimensional nature of beadwork allows me to explore the world in detail. There is also the history of beads as a ceremonial art material that entices me. Eyes are my narrative center. When I start a piece, I begin with the eyes. Meeting a creature through its eyes, I begin to understand what each character wants to become.”
