8th Annual BRAvo Invitational, 10/12

8th Annual BRAvo Invitational, 10/12

Boy in bras?

Nope, not a drag club.

Anything but a drag.

And too good to be kept secret.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Domestic Violence Prevention Month. In support, Ah Haa is hosting its 8th Annual Bra Invitational. The event takes place Thursday, October 12, 7:30 p.m., at the New Sheridan BarGentlemen from the Telluride community will model the community’s bra creations, followed by an auction of all the decorated bras.

“This  highly anticipated event gets the whole community involved. Everyone from local artist to firemen, the Sheridan Bar, and guests has made BRAvo, ahem, grow and become a fun and unique way to come together, express ourselves creatively and shine a light on serious and often very painful challenges,” said Kathleen Cole, Special Events and Marketing at the Ah Haa School for the Arts. “It is just so important to bring to support these huge issues facing all too many women and men today.”

A portion of the proceeds from the evening’s entertainment benefits the Telluride-based San Miguel Resource Center as well as the Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support Group of Southwestern Colorado based in Montrose, CO.

The Resource Center provides intervention services, prevention education, support and advocacy to support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the Telluride community, where its goal is to put itself out of business by eliminating interpersonal violence.

Bosom Buddies Cancer Support Group of Southwestern Colorado provides emotional and financial support to people affected by breast cancer and living in small communities throughout southwestern Colorado.

“We all know Telluride is a uniquely talented community. At no time does this become more apparent than in the bras submitted to the BRAvo fundraiser each year: everything from bottle caps to paint, felt, even keys and electronics have adorned the undergarments-as-canvas Ah Haa provides each year. And the men who model the unmentionables are equally colorful and uninhibited. Why men? Because breast cancer effects men through their mothers, daughters, sisters and wives and having guys model the bras allows them to become an active part of the event, turning the tables in the scourge in a fun and festive way,” added Cole.
