Telluride Med Center: 40 Years Is A Long Time

The following fact-filled blog by John Gardner, CEO, Telluride Regional Medical Center, contains an appeal for well-earned support by the greater Telluride community.

For nearly 40 years the Telluride Medical Center has occupied its current facility. Forty years!

And while, since 1978, we have evolved, as much as possible, right along with complex technologies and population growth, we’ve outgrown this 10,000-square-foot remodeled building, built in the 1960s.

We can do better for our community.

Will you join the list of community members who support our search for a new facility?

Our community needs year-round support from local governments, community members, visitors and organizations, because when we do finally secure a site for a new facility, we’ll need your support to make it possible.

At this time, the best way to support us is to add your name to the list and to stay in touch with us as we continue to navigate a path to a new medical facility. You can do that here.

So, here’s the update:

In late 2016 the Telluride Hospital District withdrew our wetlands permit application to the United States Army Corps of Engineers and began anew the search for a future home for the region’s healthcare.

Throughout 2017, representatives from our medical center’s board of directors and administration have reached out to meet with owners of properties in the area that would be suitable for the development of a new Medical Center. We have also reached out to leaders within local governments to request they join us in our in our quest for that rare piece of available land.

While we have not secured a site as of the end of this year, we remain hopeful that in early 2018 we will have a much better idea of where we can build a new facility.

2018 marks our 40th year anniversary; we intend to celebrate that feat in many ways, but most of all, we hope that this will be the year we also secure our future into the next 40 years.

Thank you so much for your continued support.
