I just LOVE reading your articles about and seeing the wonderful, life saving companions available at San Miguel County's wonderful, licensed animal shelter -- Second Chance Humane Society. As a retired teacher of children with all types of disabilities, I can tell you first hand of the amazing "power of the pet". I used dogs as an empowerment aid for years in my classroom. As for myself, with mild sleep apnea, I am so grateful to my adopted shelter dog, CoCo, for saving my life time and time again. Whenever I stop breathing at night, she gently whimpers and nudges me, to make sure I am all right. I encourage everyone in Telluride to call Second Chance, visit the amazing adoptables at the wonderful, 52 acre Angel Ridge Ranch and see how you can help save the loving critters who help us so very much!

Having read this I thought it was rather enlightening.
I appreciate you taking the time and effort to put this information
together. I once again find myself spending way too much time both reading and
commenting. But so what, it was still worth it!

So sweet! I guess, some things are OK to keep. My mom just sent me a pair of my shoes that I wore when I was 1. I can't express to you the feelings I had imagining that I was ever that small and loved by someone as much as I love my child. They might make a fun gift someday. Maybe no one else "needs" them! Thanks for sharing your writing! I love it! kristine

What a beautifully written piece. The value of an older pet can't be denied. Not only are they generally well- mannered and certainly already trained, but they already know so much about the importance of the human/animal bond, and they will love you so much for the rest of their lives. I think I'll get in the car right now and head down to Second Chance at Angel Ridge Ranch in Ridgway.
