The Telluride Blues & Brews Festival will soon be upon us as will the Violent Femmes, the closing act on the Main Stage on Friday, the first night of the Festival. Here’s a post about the band and their current tour from Reel NM Assistant Arts Editor, Adrian Gomez:
There’s a place in music history for Violent Femmes.
The Milwaukee-bred band burst on to the music scene in 1981 and quickly became one of the most popular to come out of the decade.
During its career, it released eight studio albums and is known for its hit singles such as “Blister in the Sun,” “Kiss Off,” “Add It Up” and “Gone Daddy Gone.”
The band is back and touring the United States. The lineup includes Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie and Brian Viglione.
The band has sold more than 25 million albums.
Of course, like many bands, Violent Femmes had its heyday and then called it quits. It has reunited twice and the fans hold a special place for the band, which is the reason it keeps going on tour.
Ritchie says being back on the road is great and the band has been finding a new generation of fans.
He says the band’s music was designed to stand outside of time.
