Atmosphere: Indulge Yourself at an In-town Sanctuary
Presented by the Telluride Tourism Board and Telluride Inside…and Out
Your husband won the debate: Your family is headed to Telluride for a week of skiing. Hunky-dory for a few hours a day, but what to do with the rest of your time while your crew revels in ever deeper and steeper pow pow? The short answer: indulge yourself. A top notch ski resort like Telluride offers first -rate services on – and off – mountain, including shopping, dining, cultural adventures, and spas such as Atmosphere.
In today’s world, the word “atmosphere” can conjure nightmarish visions of Mother Earth besieged by the 6.6 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide our factories, transport systems and power stations pump into the heavens annually. In Telluride, the connotation turns positive when “Atmosphere” is used in conjunction with a specific address at the base of the gondola in the Camel’s Garden Hotel. Telluride’s “Atmosphere” is an unsullied oasis.
Atmosphere is owned by Michele Genor, a former school teacher who embodies the American Dream: ambition fueled by a desire for change, an imagination to see beyond her navel and a tenacious work ethic became a formula for success. Michele just celebrated a fifth anniversary, having purchased the spa in 2006 from the original owner who opened its doors in 2001.

Michele’s success has a lot to do with an original spin on the business of spas: Atmosphere is not for women only. A recent
write-up in Nail magazine focused on the fact that pedicures for men and women can really improve the health of the feet and therefore skiing. That may be a stretch, but guys, ask yourself why women should corner the market on luxuries that make a person feel oh so much better. Atmosphere’s male facial clientele continues to grow and in the winter skiing months, massages for men are outpacing massage for ladies.
Atmosphere’s menu of services includes: muscle care/massage treatments, including deep tissue, reflexology and hot stone; skin care/facial treatments, including multivitamin, caviar, and gentlemen’s; hair removal and tinting; hand and feet care/manicure and pedicure; body polish, holistic green coffee wrap and something called “The Most Awesome Wrap and Vichy,” a signature 90-minute treatment.
Atmosphere is open seven days a week. Walk-ins are welcome. However, appointments are highly recommended especially during peak hours of 3 p.m. until close (particularly during ski season).
