Doc needs a forever home now!

Another Telluride Bluegrass Festival has ended and I am still homeless. If I were a bluegrass song my title would be “I Am a Dog, but I Still Need a Home”. It would be a smooth mellow tune with a strong banjo lead, the occasional mandolin riff and heavy on the stand up base. It would make you want to slow things down and contemplate life for a bit. It might make you cry, but only because you want the song to last forever.

Like a great Bluegrass tune I boast an organically homegrown soul that encourages others to take a pause and appreciate all that life has to give. I offer you a second chance at living life authentically and meaningfully. With a dog like me around life becomes lyrical and cool.

So here is the rub, I have been waiting here at Second Chance for my forever family for over a year and a half. The only other dog that has been here even close to that long was just adopted last week.. She is as big as I am and had a chronic, life-long illness (treatable with meds), yet she still got a home sooner than I did.

Admittedly she deserved it. Her name was Myra and you may have heard of her as she fought hard to get where she is today. Myra had a very rough go since arriving at Second Chance where she was diagnosed with her illness. My staff was not sure if she would make it: she became very ill and spent time in and out of the hospital. But she pulled through and we are all celebrating her adoption into a loving family. I am happy for her. I just feel it is my time now.

I am a Great Pyrenees/Blue Heeler mix, which means I am a big boy with a lot to love. Around here they call me the Love Doctor (Doc for short). Although I need to be the only pet in the family, if you open your heart and home to me I’ll willingly share the healing powers of love, the kind that make you want to sing out loud like no one is listening (and if they are listening they will at least appreciate your enthusiasm).

In addition to spooning out my love medicine, I also enjoy playing fetch, going for short hikes and swimming.  My tender personality will brighten your everyday. Here are some lyrics from my latest tune: ?You’ll think I’m cute, a little bit shy, Mama I am that kind of guy. No pill’s gonna cure my ill I’ve got a bad case of needing you.”

Be blue no longer – come meet me today. Let’s do this!
