Telluride Library: Summer Reading Program, Game On! Starts 6/1!

Not all summer festivals are cancelled! Telluride’s Wilkinson Public Library’s long-running and much beloved summer reading program, dubbed “Camp Telluride” this year, is happening and better than ever. Take-home activity kits for babies and toddlers, children, and teens will be available every Monday starting June 1. The Camp Telluride summer reading program is open for registration now and runs from June 1st through July 31st. Prize winners will be announced in early August.

This summer, the program can be accessed and tracked entirely online through a website or an app and is open to anyone, Telluride Library cardholder or not, from children to adults. Interested readers just need to register here:

“Campers” can earn “badges” by doing fun activities and the badges get participants “tickets” to put in for raffle prizes. Campers can also earn tickets by reading (of course!) and keeping track of their reading hours and by posting reviews of the books they have read.

“The goal of our Summer Reading Program is to motivate students to read during their time off from school by offering small prizes and incentives. Additionally, with our take-home activity kits, we hope to provide some fun, hands-on learning opportunities throughout the summer,” says Erin Hollingsworth, Youth Services Manager.

Prizes for adults include gift certificates for $50 to $100 to Between the Covers, Ghost Town, Coffee Cowboy, High Alpine Coffee, The Phoenix Bean, Telluride Music Store, Ah Haa School for the Arts, Boot Doctors, and Telluride Outside. Prizes for kids include gift certificates for $5 to $10 to Between the Covers, Telluride Truffle, Steamies, Baked in Telluride, Brown Dog, Zia Sun, Coffee Cowboy, and more.

“The cool part about this Summer Reading program,” says Jill Wilson, Public Services Manager, “is that you can choose which prizes you want to put your tickets towards. That way you have the chance to get the prize you really want, all just for reading or completing fun activities!”
