Telluride Library: Reopening In August?

The following is a note from Wilkinson Public Library director Sarah Landeryou. Until the much anticipated reopening of one of Telluride’s favorite institutions – August? – please take advantage of Curbside Service (970-729-8129) and remember that our Library has a tremendous amount of digital material for checkout. You can reach a librarian via chat on our website, by telephone (970-728-4519 ext. 110) or by email, askus@telluridelibrary.org.

I want to provide an update about the library closure due to COVID-19, as the question on the minds of many is “When is the Library going to open?”

Currently, we are providing a wide variety of services, including virtual/outdoor programming, summer reading kits, chat service, digital checkouts, WiFi, printing and the super-popular contact-free Curbside Service. I am thankful to the Staff for developing these super helpful and innovative services. The Staff have been working hard to keep Library Services going while the facility is closed, we’ve even got Storytimes by your favorite librarians.

In the meantime, as the new State and County Public Health Orders were just announced, we are working toward a re-opening by early August that will protect our staff and users.  This will be a phased approach for returning to full library service at the appropriate time. First we hope to provide limited access by mid-July to the Lower Terrace for some Library programs and outdoor meetings, along with access to the Magazine Room just off the terrace for in-person appointment services like fingerprinting, passport applications, notary services and specified computer use.

We will share these dates with you as we develop the procedures and receive approvals.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding while the doors remain closed, and understand that we share your disappointment and frustration. However, we are doing all that we can to provide Library services and access to information from outside the doors.

Thank you for your continued use of the Telluride Library.

We can’t wait to see you all when the time is right.
