It’s getting to be summertime in Telluride, a season which offer an opportunity to shift gears and refocus. Whether you’re gearing up to enjoy the festivals or just some outdoor fun, Telluride’s Ah Haa School for the Arts has a wide array of summer classes that will help you flex your creative muscles. Summer at Ah Haa kicks off with three sessions of “Finding Your Voice with Robert Weatherford”, May 29 – 31; June 5 – 7; and June 11 – 13 – all 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Weatherford’s intensive, multi-day painting workshops will help new and experienced students tap into their own unique voices to create authentic work.

Bird-lovers rejoice! Tara Carter is guiding a series of casual Telluride birding tours of Telluride titled “Birding Basics.” June classes take place June 14 and June 25, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., enabling a quick study of the Telluride region’s area’s feathered friends.

Telluride is the perfect backdrop for portraiture, and local artist Abie Livesay will teach you how to “Take Candid Portrait Photos in Natural Light” on June 19, 2-4 p.m.

Or, have a riveting good time with Tony Finocchio in “Riveting Metal: A Jewelry Workshop, “June 24-25, 2-5 p.m. Learn how to make layered metal pendants.

If you’re interested in expanding your mindfulness practice, or just want to re-center, artist Lynn Rae Lowe can help. Her “Drawing It Out: Discovering the Artist Within” workshop, June 25-26, 1-5 p.m., will guide students through a series of mindful activities and walks as they create their own mandalas.

If you’re curious about the American Academy of Bookbinding classes, check out “Bookbinding 101 “with Katy Baum, June 26 – 28, 1-5 p.m. This entry-level class will teach students how to make several different types of books – from a pamphlet to a hardcover journal.

While you’re reveling in the Telluride landscape, why not learn how to creatively capture its beauty in an abstract style? Visiting artist Sarah B. Hansen teaches “Landscapes Rediscovered,” June 26 – 28, 10 a.mm – 4 p.m. Students will learn how to move past representational landscapes into an abstraction.

Surprise your date (or a friend) with a quick and dirty ceramics workshop in “Date Night: Try the Wheel,” June 26, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Or dive into jewelry-making with “Intro to Metalsmithing” with Emily Ehr, June 28 – 29, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

If you want that healthy summer glow, you need to start from the inside! Sheila Manzagol can help with her class, “Herb Infused Oils for Beautiful Skin,” June 28, 1-4 p.m. Learn about the botanicals, essential oils, carrier oils, and minerals that promote skin vitality and then take some home with you in a bottle.

Whether or not you consider yourself able to draw, being able to render your memories with pen and paper is a valuable tool. Create a keepsake picture journal in “Capturing Your Journey: Travel Sketchbooks,” June 29, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Meredith Nemirov will teach students how to really see their environment through color, shape and texture.

Finally, finish out June (and start July!) with “Functional Pottery”, Saturdays June 29 – July 20, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Students will learn different techniques and practices to create usable ceramic art, both thrown and hand-formed.
