01 May Telluride Adaptive Sports Program: Support Requested by 5/5!
Please support TASP in its emergency response to the unprecedented needs caused by COVID-19 on #GivingTuesdayNow through Colorado Gives on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. TASP challenges, inspires and empowers individuals with disabilities. Your support will help TASP keep the doors open to independence, freedom and recreational therapy enabling participants to have greater access to the outdoors.
The following is an appeal from the organization.
We hope you are staying safe and healthy as you navigate down this uncharted trail we have found ourselves on. We know that this has been quite a transition for all of us. We just want to say that we are right there next to you and are doing our best to adapt to all of the new challenges. A big part of that is our continued commitment to the well-being of our staff, their families, our community and our amazing participants.
TASP team member, Derek Nunner shared the following words:
“Resilience has quickly become a coveted characteristic in light of the series of quick and intense changes happening in everyone’s day to day world. We at TASP wanted to share the unparalleled resilience of the athletes who make up Team San Juan – TASP’s very own Special Olympics alpine race team. Amidst cancelled tournaments due to wild storms and challenging race courses filled with powder, again due to heavy storms, Team San Juan’s athletes rose to each and every occasion. Each athlete embodied true resilience, weathering out waiting in race lines huddled next to their coaches, taking the challenging mixture of ice and piles of powder on the race course with grace. Even when falls occurred, athletes high fived each other and smiled, saying they were eager to try again. In the end, each athlete came away with at least 1 gold medal, a fantastic feat in and of itself. More so, each athlete, after their races, rather than asking what their times were or if they medaled, asked their coaches if they could go watch the other races to support their fellow competitors. With this, team San Juan walked away from State Comps not only decorated with the triumphs of their own efforts, but their efforts as a team supporting one another to greater potentials.”
We are so grateful for YOU and hope you can continue to support our mission in providing top quality therapeutic recreation to individuals with disabilities in order to promote independence and personal growth. Our immediate goal is to keep TASP resilient during these challenging times and continue to open the outdoors to all.
We look forward to sharing time with you on the trails, the slopes and our alpine lakes once we all get through this!
With your support in 2019-2020
• TASP proudly served nearly 500 participants in more than 3,000 activity days
• TASP gave out more than $105,000 in scholarships to support our regional youth participants and disabled Veterans
• More than 180 disabled Veterans joined the TASP team of instructors and volunteers in a variety of all-expense-paid adventure programs, empowering and inspiring participants with recreational opportunities and adaptive equipment to support their personal goals.
